Tukwila Police are reporting that just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 16, 2021, officers extracted a woman who was trapped inside a partially-overturned vehicle.

Officer Johnson was patrolling in the 14800 block 42nd Ave S. (map below) when he came across a vehicle that had struck a curb and was partially flipped over.

Police say that an adult female was trapped inside the vehicle, suffering from an obvious head injury. The vehicle was positioned in such a way that it was close to flipping all the way over onto its roof.

Officer Johnson called for more officers and medics and began attempting to find a way inside of the vehicle to reach the trapped woman. Officer Thomas arrived at which time he and Officer Johnson were able to gain entry via the trunk and crawl into the vehicle. Concerned passersby who had stopped when they came across the scene helped by bracing the vehicle to keep it from tipping over.

Officer Johnson was able to cut the victims seat-belt and remove her from the seat. He and Officer Thomas managed to remove the victim from her seat and pulled her into the backseat. Officer Matsuyama and a community member were able to safely pull the victim out of the vehicle through the trunk. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.

“We want to thank those that stopped to help our officers and the victim. A special thanks to the individual who assisted by translating Somali for the officers and the victim during the incident.”
