The Tukwila City Council confirmed the appointment of Eric Drever to Police Chief at its meeting on Monday evening, Mar. 15, 2021.

Drever was approved by a vote of 4-2, with councilmembers Verna Seal and Zak Idan voting no. Councilmember Cynthia Delestrinos Johnson was absent.

Several councilmembers made positive comments about Drever’s opponent for the position – Major Michelle Bennett – who they hope will consult with the city and its new chief to help the Tukwila Police Department.

As we previously reported, Drever was selected by Mayor Allan Ekberg after a months-long review process. He has more than 26 years’ experience working within Tukwila, and “has a clear vision of bringing our Police Department forward in these critical times,” according to Ekberg.

Drever will take the helm on April 1, with a 90-Day Chief’s Community Engagement Action Plan.
