The Tukwila Police Department recently closed its Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC) – aka “The Chalet,” located at 14864 Tukwila International Blvd.:

April 30th ushered in the end of an era for us here at Tukwila PD in the form of the closing of the Tukwila Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC) aka “The Chalet.” The NRC has been our home on Tukwila International Blvd since it opened on August 7th, 2012 thanks to Mike West the owner of the building and of Southtowne Auto Rebuild next door to it.

West opened Southtowne Auto Rebuild on what was then Pacific Hwy S in 1972 along with his wife Donna. Over the almost 50 years that West has run the shop, he has been an active supporter of the community and our department focusing his efforts on making Tukwila International Blvd a better and safer place for everyone. West is also an active member of the Tukwila International Boulevard Action Committee (TIBAC) which represents business and resident interests in improving Tukwila International Blvd.

West most recently has led efforts to raise funds to put up flags on the light poles along Tukwila International Blvd of all of the nations represented by Foster High School students that immigrated here from over 80 different countries.

On our last day at the NRC, Chief Linton presented West with a plaque, a Tukwila PD coffee mug and a department challenge coin to show our appreciation for everything he has done for us. We can’t thank West enough for everything he has done for us and for putting up with our constant shenanigans and chaos that having a police department as tenants brings with it. We aren’t going far however as the Tukwila Justice Center which will be home to our new police station is slated to open later this year directly across the street from our beloved former home at the NRC.

“Thank you Mike West for everything!”
