Sleep Country USA’s annual “Pajama Bowl” is coming to Acme Bowl in Tukwila on Sunday, April 18th. This event is a fundraiser that helps over 26,000 foster children in the northwest.

100% of all donations will help local foster kids by going directly to one of 16 foster care organization designated by participants.

Last year’s event raised over $77,000 in both Washington and Oregon, and benefited more than 26,000 foster children.

Here are the details:

WHAT: Sleep Country USA’s 5th Annual Pajama Bowl.

Far as we know, it’s the only wacky bowling party based on a Coen Brothers movie – the annual Lebowski Fest returns to the area on Monday July 20th & Tuesday July 21st!

The boys from The Tukwila Blog couldn’t resist the assignment earlier this week: Go do a story on trim, athletic, beautiful and scantily clad women running loose upon a field of grass.

Okay, so it was actually artificial turf, at the Starfire Sports Complex here in Tukwila, anyway, but who’s counting?

Tough assignment.

It was a combo mini-camp, open tryout and media event featuring The Seattle Mist, an expansion team in the Lingerie Football League.

The LFL was born of the Lingerie Bowl, which was first televised on a pay-per-view setup during halftime of the Super Bowl five years ago.

During games players wear, well, some lingerie plus pads and helmets. It’s full contact, tackle, seven on a side.

The Mist will play four regular season games, starting at home September 11 against the San Diego Seduction at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

Our gawking reporters, Bart and Mark, failed to ask many intelligent questions, but did manage to snap a few photos, a few of which are shown below.

This is the first professional coaching position for Mist Coach Robert Long, whose college playing experience earned him a tryout with the Tennessee Titans.

“There won’t be a playbook,” Long said. “But I’m going to teach these players a dozen or more basic plays, quick study stuff, West Coast offense.”

Tailgate parties will be allowed at the ShoWare before games, says league Creative Director, Heather Theisen. And games will be played on Friday nights.

“The Lingerie Football League with the Seattle Mist will be, essentially, ‘Nightlife meets Sports meets Baywatch’,” Theisen said.

Meet some of The Mist, but don’t get too misty-eyed – after all, it’s just a game:

For all you (ahem) hardcore football fans out there, this Wednesday, April 22nd will be a big day in Tukwila – because our own Lingerie Football League team the Seattle Mist is holding a free Mini-Camp!

No, the term “Mini” in this case is related not to skirt length, nor trendy cars – it’s an actual “football” camp where women play (as in football silly) in their underwear from 11am-1pm at Tukwila’s Starfire Sports Complex, located at 14800 Starfire Way (map below).

The two-hour session is open to the public and admission is free, and here are the details:

Lingerie Football League (or “LFL‟) and Seattle Mist officials are excited to announce the team‟s first-ever Mini-Camp hosted on Wednesday, April 22nd. Fans and media will get their first glimpse at the 2009/2010 Seattle Mist.

The April 22nd Media Day will be the sole open to the public and media event during the 2009 Seattle Mist Mini-Camp, as the team prepares for the upcoming inaugural season of play. Members of the media as well as Seattle Mist fans will have an opportunity to meet the team and watch them go through various offensive, special teams and defensive football drills.

Since the announcement of the Lingerie Football League‟s newest expansion team Seattle Mist, the city has been buzzing with fan fare and media attention.

The Mist will feature one of the LFL‟s most potent offenses led by strong-armed quarterback Alicia McLauchlin #7 and the power-running of Michelle Selover #1. But there’s one big catch – all open tryouts will be filmed for a reality-TV series which will air on BELO properties, including: KING 5, KONG 6/16 and NWCN in late January, 2009. A minimum of three finalists from each market will take part in a one-hour tryout in Seattle.

“Chivas USA has utilized the open tryout process very effectively,” said Sounders FC majority owner Joe Roth.  “The 2007 winner plays for Chivas USA and the U.S. Under-20 National Team.  We believe similar talent exists in the Northwest. ”

The final tryout will be broadcast “live” on Sunday, February 1, 2009, following the Super Bowl on KING 5.  Viewers will have the opportunity to narrow the finalists to three. A distinguished panel of judges will determine the winner. The winner will be awarded a spot on the 2009 Sounders FC roster.

In addition to the Nov. 15th tryout in Tukwila, other Sounders tryouts will take place at the following locations:
