This Friday’s “Peanut Butter & Jam Kids Concert” will feature the band Caspar Babypants, whose lead singer is Chris Ballew from the Presidents of the United States of America!

The concert will be held from Noon – 1pm in the grassy area near the spray park at the Community Center right here in Tukwila.

The Tukwila School District has been hailed as the “most diverse in the nation,” and students at the city’s Foster High School are using that as part of an attempt to lure President Obama to speak at their commencement this spring.

Advance placement students produced a video highlighting the 68 diverse different countries where members of the student body were born, and are hoping that the Prez (or his peeps) sees it and decides that “Yes he can” come to Tukwila and speak.

In addition to the video below, students also submitted essays answering the President’s challenge to show him why they should be a model for others and how they’re preparing more students for college and careers.

OMG! On Thursday, Nov. 12th, some cast members from “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” will be appearing at Tukwila’s Westfield Southcenter Mall!

And get this kids – not only can you meet and listen to cast members, but there will also be a live performance from one of the bands on the soundtrack. Any guesses as to which one? Perhaps one from this area?

OMFG!!!

To get in though, you’re going to have to spend $75 at Nordstrom this Saturday, Oct. 31st beginning at 8am; this will entitle you to a “VIP pass” (just 75 are available on a first-come, first-serve basis).

Also, don’t expect the big stars to be there, since they’ll apparently be otherwise occupied.

Nordstrom is currently selling a special line of clothing based entirely on The Twilight Saga, so ‘rents, it’s time get the plastic out for the kids. Once the $75 is spent, your TwiFan will be given access to return to Southcenter on Nov. 12th to meet the cast and participate in the event.

According to Entertainment Tonight:

Fans can acquire limited-amount V.I.P. credentials on a first come, first-served basis at 8 a.m. this Saturday, October 31 at Hot Topic and select Nordstrom stores, given to those who make qualified purchases. They will be given access to return and meet select cast members at that same mall on the assigned scheduled date and time.

V.I.P. credentials are non-transferable.

It starts in Tukwila, on Interurban Ave South at the Foster Golf Links, then winds its way up past Boeing Field and through Seattle, ending at one of two finish lines in Pioneer Square (depending on whether you’re in the full marathon or half marathon).

The Rock n’Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon is now part of a national series of eight musically themed marathons and half-marathons. The 26.2 and 13.1-mile courses will run past many of the city’s notable sites and tourist attractions and feature live bands and cheerleaders along the courses at each mile.

INFO: New this year, the Rock n’Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon will be taking place on the streets throughout Seattle! We need your help in creating an inspiring and upbeat environment for the runners and walkers participating in this event.

Not a runner or walker? You can still be a part of the event! With over 15,000 marathon and half marathon participants, volunteers are needed to assist with every aspect of the event, including setup, pre-registration, the Health & Fitness Expo, the Start Line, Finish Line and water stations along the course. Team up with your friends or family and make it an experience you won’t forget!

Aside from making airplanes and being blasted by Sir Richard Branson, Boeing has a collection of talented musicians who make up the Boeing Orchestra of Flight.

They’re seeking more musicians, and here’s some info from their press release:

The Boeing Orchestra of flight is a volunteer ,community orchestra open to all adult instrumentalists, including musicians not affiliated with Boeing. We have been performing in the Puget Sound area since 1983.

We strive to provide a fun, non-competitive and improvement-oriented experience for our members. Our music includes works from the Baroque and classical to contemporary Broadway and Hollywood film scores.

We would particularly like to invite string players, double reed players, and percussionists to join us.

There are no auditions required. Musicians who perhaps have not played for some time are definitely encouraged to return to their instrument and lend their talents to the group. We strive to provide a fun, non-competitive and improvement oriented organization.

Musicians young and old are welcome with the following qualifications:

You should be able to:

• Read music for your instrument
• Play at a high school level or better
• Be willing to commit to the rehearsal and concert schedules
• Be able to get to and from rehearsals and concerts

Dues are $70 for the season (September to June), or $35 for the combined Fall and Christmas series or $35 for the combined Winter and Spring series of concerts. You are welcome to come play with us for a rehearsal, or just listen, before you join the orchestra.

Rehearsals are Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 P.M. and are held in Boeing’s South Park Cafeteria, the 15-35 Bldg. The first rehearsal of the Fall Series is in September on the first Monday after Labor Day. Rehearsals continue weekly (except during the Christmas break) through the end of the season, usually in June.

We spoke with a rep at the Verizon store and she said that Cornell and Timbaland will be doing both an in-store meet and greet/autograph session as well as a live performance in the parking lot.

She suggested arriving early (around 2pm), as it’s a first-come/first-served event and they’re expecting a big crowd.

Cornell and Timbaland will be performing later Nov. 2nd at Showbox SODO.
