Middle School student with weapon reported near Foster High campus

On Wednesday afternoon (June 5) there were reports of a Showalter Middle School student possibly carrying a handgun near the Foster High School campus in Tukwila, the Tukwila School District reported.

Late Wednesday night, Tukwila Police confirmed with the district that the student was not carrying a handgun or pistol, but BB gun.

Police say that the student claimed to be carrying the weapon because they wanted to show it off to friends.

The student has since been disciplined according to TSD policy.

At the time of the incident, the Tukwila Police Department, a School Resource Officer, and Tukwila School District Administration were immediately contacted. A description of the student was given to authorities by witnesses. A student was identified based off of those descriptions. That student’s parents were notified and the incident continues to be thoroughly investigated.

“We have no reason to believe that our students and staff were in any immediate danger at that time, or are currently in any danger,” officials said. “The safety of our students and staff are our primary concern at all times.”

Tukwila School District adds that they will continue to monitor the situation and notify families with more information as necessary.
