UPDATE: Due to teacher strike, first day of school cancelled for Wed., Sept. 4

UPDATE: The Tukwila School District announced on Tuesday (Sept. 4), that due to an impending strike, the first day of school will be canceled Wednesday, Sept. 5.

There will be no transportation service, no food service, or any other activities with the exception of regularly scheduled high school athletic practices.

“At this time we don’t know if school will be in session Thursday, September 6th,” the district added. “As soon as a decision is made you will be notified via our website www.tukwilaschools.org, all social media, local television news or phone call. If you have any questions please call your child’s school for assistance. We thank you for your patience during this time.”

A strike was called by the Tukwila Education Association on Thursday, Aug. 30, and is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018.

A Special Meeting of the Tukwila School District Board of Directors was held Saturday afternoon. During that Saturday session, Resolution #874 regarding legal options was explored and adopted.

“There is always the anticipation of a solution to this issue,” said Rhonda A. Lee, Communications Officer for the Tukwila School District. “The District continues to above all else put the needs of our students first and we will work towards a unified goal of providing a world-class education to the bright young minds of the Tukwila School District.” she said.

Raising property taxes isn’t enough? How much more money are we going to give? We pay more per student than every other country for mid level results. Enough is enough.
