The Tukwila Police Department will be holding a FREE, 12-week “Citizen’s Police Academy” program beginning Monday, Sept. 14th, with an application deadline of Sept. 4th.

This program is designed to provide residents and merchants with first hand information about the operations of their local police department, as well as to strengthen the working relationship vital to problem solving and quality of life issues in our community.

The Tukwila Police Department is currently accepting applications for the program, will start Sept. 14th and meet each Monday and Wednesday from 6:30pm to 9pm for 6 weeks. The evening classes will be held at the Tukwila Community Center and will include some site visits in the area.

Topics being taught by police officers and other experts will include:

  • Criminal and civil law
  • Investigative procedures
  • Use of force policy
  • Patrol procedures
  • Narcotics enforcement
  • 9-1-1 communications
  • Adult and juvenile courts
  • SWAT
  • Emergency vehicle
  • operations
  • Firearms training
  • And many more!

Several hands-on sessions are planned so that participants have the opportunity to see first-hand what officers are exposed to on a daily basis.

Applicants must be 18 years old, live or work in Tukwila and have no felony convictions or outstanding warrants.  All applicants are subject to a background check.  A valid driver’s license is required to participate in the emergency vehicle driving exercise.
