TUKWILA – A semi-truck accident on I-5 last night has resulted in the spillage of possibly hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel into the Duwamish River.

Clean-up workers have placed absorbent pads near a storm pipe that carried about 200 gallons of fuel when a truck jackknifed and two tanks were punctured.

The truck jackknifed south of Boeing Field, causing traffic to come to a crawl as the fuel leaked into a storm drain.

The Tukwila Fire Department placed absorbent material on the spill, and it’s unknown how much fuel went down the drain.

Coast Guard crews said they will continue to watch the river and take measures to control the contamination if necessary.
