TUKWILA – An 18-year old Tukwila man was arrested by Redmond police, along with two teenagers from SeaTac and Renton, for accosting and robbing people at area bus stops.
The names of the suspects were not released.
The first reported robbery happened at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at a bus stop in the 15400 block of Northeast 51st Street, Redmond police reported.
The victim, a 28-year-old Seattle man, told officers that three teenagers approached him at the bus stop, beat him, then stole his jacket. He saw all three run to a maroon SUV parked nearby and speed off.
Witnesses were able to give police the vehicle’s description and license plate number.
Later, around 7:20 p.m., Redmond patrol officers got a second report of a robbery at a bus stop.
A 53-year-old Redmond woman waiting for a bus in the 4200 block of 148th Avenue Northeast told officers that her purse had been stolen. The woman said one teen distracted her by talking to her when a second teen ran up to her and snatched her purse.
As the woman was talking to officers, she saw the teenager who had spoken to her run by and pointed him out to police. Officers found the teen getting into an SUV matching the description of the one used in the earlier robbery.
All three teens in the SUV were arrested and the vehicle was impounded.
Now, Bellevue police are investigating whether the same trio was involved in a similar strong armed robbery at a bus stop in their city on Thursday.
